Yippee! It’s time to reveal our second release for ToyCon UK – this is the second edition of Panda Otaku Vol. 1- Panda Otaku in glorious hand-painted technicolour. Woo!
Armed with his collection of cameras he’s ready to compulsively document his mundane existence of delivering takeaway food and trawling the yahoo japan auctions for treasures.
As with the first edition ‘Au Naturel’ versions, each 6.5″ solid wood panda is hand carved by Nick Hunter. Each figure is individual, and all slightly different.
They are then hand finished and painted by ourselves. Each comes with 2 cameras – a small hand-held and then either a Polaroid, Rolleiflex, SLR or Leica. He also comes with a ‘Hobbyshop Astro’ bag and miniature ‘gentlemans comic’! They come packaged with the same lovely laser-cut/etched Hobbyshop Astro display box as the first edition and the entire product is very proudly made in Sheffield!

3 of these hand painted pandas will be available at the Toycon UK on a first come, first served basis, priced at £120 each.
As before however, for people unable to attend, there will be a very limited number available to pre-order via the TADOShop after the Toycon event.
We might even be able to offer a choice of which camera you would like!

Toycon UK is almost upon us! Hooray! This week we’ll be posting up some of the goodies we’re planning on having on our little stall.
First up is the first phase of a very special project…
We’re super proud to have joined forces again with fellow Sheffielder and wood-carver extraordinaire Nick Hunter to create the first in a new series of releases called Panda Otaku.
Panda Otaku is a new long-term narrative project that will follow the adventures and misadventures of Jerry; take-away delivery driver, social recluse and obsessive otaku.
The first release in the series is the Panda Otaku Vol.1 ‘Au Naturel’ edition, which will be available at the forth-coming Toycon UK, to be held 6th April in London.
Each 6.5″ hand-carved solid wood panda comes with 2 cameras (lucky dip of Polaroid, Leica, Rolleiflex or SLR versions), as well as a miniature ‘gentlemens comic / magazine’.
Each figure is individual, and all slightly different. They’re finished with a coat of protective beeswax and come packaged in a spectacular laser-etched comic shop display box.
The entire product is very proudly made in Sheffield!

5 of these first edition pandas will be available at the Toycon on a first come, first served basis, priced at £80 each.
However for people unable to attend, there will be a very limited number available to pre-order via the TADOShop after the Toycon event. Hooray!
We’ve got a whole bunch of other new products that we’ll be releasing at the London Toycon, including a second edition of Panda Otaku Vol. 1, which we’ll be posting pics of very soon – stay tuned for further updates and more insight into the story of Panda Otaku!

Sheffield Children’s Hospital Ryegate Centre Hydrotherapy Pool Project

We began this year working on another fantastic project with the guys at Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s ‘Artfelt’ initiative.
Following on from our extensive work there last year, we were back at The Ryegate Centre for Phase 2 of their amazing refurbishment programme – the total renewal of the Hydrotherepy Pool facility.
The pool is one of the most heavily used areas of the centre and was in urgent need of updating and modernising. A huge fundraising effort was made and work began on the project at the end of summer 2012.
We were asked to jump onboard for the final phase of the refurb and to bring along a cast of happy characters who would bring to life the pool, changing rooms and waiting areas.
We’re extremely proud to have been involved in the project and it was a wonderful way to start the year – we can’t wait until the pool is officially opened on the 12th March and the kids can start enjoying it!
